{"id":1789,"date":"2010-11-13T07:04:58","date_gmt":"2010-11-13T12:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.hulettsonlakegeorge.com\/?p=1789"},"modified":"2010-11-13T07:06:24","modified_gmt":"2010-11-13T12:06:24","slug":"bits-of-everything-129","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hulettscurrent.com\/index.php\/archives\/1789","title":{"rendered":"Bits of Everything"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington County Proposed Budget: Tax Increase Smaller \/ Transfer Stations Open<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/poststar.com\/app\/blogs\/?p=56903&#038;cat=268\" target=\"_blank\">Wash Blog<\/a> has a quick synopsis of Washington County&#8217;s finance committee meeting this past week. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Counties Fear State Mandates<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/16638\/counties-squeezed-by-state-mandates-tax-cap\" target=\"_blank\">North Country Public Radio<\/a> has a great piece on how state mandates drive up property taxes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Medicaid is the big cost.  But when all the mandates are added together, counties wind up spending 90 percent of their tax-revenue on things that Albany is making them do. <\/p>\n<p>Steve LaVigne with the state Association of Counties. &#8220;Medicaid alone costs property taxpayers over $7 billion a year.
