{"id":2938,"date":"2014-03-03T14:28:55","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T19:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.hulettsonlakegeorge.com\/?p=2938"},"modified":"2014-03-03T14:28:55","modified_gmt":"2014-03-03T19:28:55","slug":"lga-celebrates-read-across-america-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hulettscurrent.com\/index.php\/archives\/2938","title":{"rendered":"LGA Celebrates Read Across America Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hulettscurrent.com\/pictures\/LGA_Executive_Director_Walt_Lender_Reading_3.jpg\"><br \/>\n<em>The Lake George Association&#8217;s Executive Director, Walt Lender, reads to second graders at St. Mary\u2019s School in Ticonderoga.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today, March 3, 2014, is the NEA&#8217;s Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss&#8217;s birthday and the joys of reading, More than 45 million readers, both young and old, are expected to pick up a book and read today.  <\/p>\n<p>LGA\u2019s Executive Director Walt Lender put aside his director\u2019s hat for a bit this morning to don the ultimate reading hat, the red and white striped stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat. To help celebrate the sixteenth annual celebration of reading and Dr. Seuss&#8217;s 110th birthday Lender began the day by reading to the second graders at St. Mary\u2019s School in Ticonderoga.  The class was well prepared and excited for his arrival \u2013 with their \u2018Cat in the Hat\u2019 hats all on.<\/p>\n<p>Lender read a book about watersheds titled \u2018Follow the Water from Brook to Ocean\u2019 that teaches children about how water shapes the earth and why it is important to keep our water clean.  After he was done reading, they had a lively discussion about Lake George and how special it is. The timing was great too, as the class will be starting to learn about the water cycle in coming weeks.  \u201cI\u2019m just glad to have had the chance to read to the kids this morning.  Their energy and excitement and interest in learning are a big part of why we do what we do at the LGA.
