Memories of Family Movie Night?
The movie, Last of the Mohicans, with Randolph Scott and Binnie Barnes, was one of the movies shown in the Casino on “Family Movie Night” in the 1950’s.
During the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s family movie night was a staple in the Casino. Movies such as: Cheaper by the Dozen, Robin Hood, Last of the Mohicans (the 1936 edition), and many Disney classics were enjoyed by many. I remember my parents ordering the films from a catalog and running off the mimeographed sheets advertising these. I recently came across a copy of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and remembered watching it in the Casino as a child.
If you have any favorite movies you remember seeing in the Casino during family movie night or memories you wouldn’t mind sharing here, I’d appreciate hearing from you.
Couples Compete for North American Wife Carrying Championship
The 18th Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship took place in Newry, Maine, on Saturday. The contestants raced each other over a 278 yard obstacle course, in which husbands waded through water and clambered over hurdles while carrying their wives.
This year’s winners were Kirsten and Jake Barney from Lexington, Virginia. The first-placed pair won beer totaling Kirsten’s weight, and an entry into the World Championship, which takes place in Finland the following summer.
Casino’s Columbus Day Weekend Schedule
For the Columbus Day weekend, the Casino will be open from 9 pm to close on Friday and Saturday nights. .
The Halloween party will happen on Saturday night, beginning around 10:00 pm. DJ, Paul Ferguson, will be taking music requests. Come early in your best costume and enjoy the party. 😉

A large crowd enjoyed the classic rock sound of the band, Hungry Crows, at the Huletts Casino on Saturday night, August 12th. For those born in the 1950s and ’60s, it was good to hear some of the tunes we grew up with again!

Casino Summer Schedule Starts: Weds June 28th
The “Huletts Casino” will be transitioning from the off-season, Friday and Saturday night schedule, to being open a full weekly schedule of Tuesday thru Sunday nights starting on Wednesday, June 28th. Hope to see you there!!
Soda Fountain Opens This Weekend
The soda fountain will be opening this coming Saturday, June 24th for the summer. Open nightly until Labor Day, the ice cream, candy, and good company will have your child dreaming about summer all year long! This year a number of lower calorie items have been added to the menu for those “young at heart.”
